Hi there! My name is Tamaster and welcome to ARK RP. If you have found your way here you likely have a strong interest in both ARK: Survival Evolved, and roleplay. Well let me tell you, you have come to the right place. I have created this community as a place for players to have fun in this amazing game, roleplay as whatever character they like, and for all to have fun. If you think you would like to be a part of that then please, make an account and apply for the whitelist! We are always looking for more great players to join us and take part in the fun.
Please note that we are NOT the developers or makers of the game here, we are just fans who want to create the best roleplay community for ARK possible.
Before you go any further however I would suggest checking out the following links for very important information:
First of all make sure to introduce yourself to everyone here.
Make sure to read the rules before applying for the whitelist.
Once you think you are ready you can apply to play via the whitelist link in the top menu
Important links and information to play can be found here.
Happy Halloween (Almost)! This months news is a strange one but we have lots coming in the rest of this season and lots more after that, so please enjoy!
This month news will follow the new format going forward which consists of:
Community Member Interview
Upcoming Changes & Features
We hope you enjoy this updated news format and see how it improves it a LOT!
The biggest news this month is likely the community meeting that was just held. We as staff had a long discussion with various member sof the community about the positives and negatives of arkrp and what they would like to see changed. You can find the full meeting notes and more detail HERE.
Additionally this month sees the return of the Trader Market (see HERE) as well as the first storyline event at the end of the month! Details about that will be posted soon after the market event is over but let's just say it will be a mystery
We also did some tweaks to the server like usual - changing apex taming and rules, remaking the loot tables from scratch and offering trades for items of too high quality as well finally finishing up our internal staff restructure. You may have noticed a lot of new staff recently and that is why, we want a bigger better and easier to interact with staff team, and we are now deep into doing just that.
Community Member Interview
This month's interview is with the amazing Indigo! Well known for his roleplay story that is told here on the forums as well as being a friendly community
Tell us who you are and what you do in ARKRP
People on the TS refer to me as Indigo so I'll leave it as that. The character that I'm currently playing is Mason "Indigo" Wu. He is a Singaporean - Chinese culinary student turned soldier who joins the Kurdish army as a volunteer militant in their resistance against ISIS. He dies by gunshots in one of the skirmishes and awakes in the Island, then getting washed up in the Center. Now he is part of a team of survivors named "The Syndicate" who seeks to survive peacefully against the hostile environments.
What inspired you to write your RP journal?
I guess what inspired me to write my RP journal was when I began reading many other journals in the forums. I must say that the Roleplay and Lore section is my most frequented section as of yet! I used to write journals on another character back when I was RP'ing in Elder Scrolls Online and figured I do the same here. I felt that the journals really helped my character explore his thoughts, his emotions and his plans further. The journal almost served as a road map for Indigo and how he will develop as a character. What is also inspiring about the RP journals is that it also allowed me to read into other characters in game and really let me enjoy their stories in ARKRP, whether Indigo was there or not. It is really fun to see how each character reacted to a particular scenario and even more so, how they varied from other characters!
What is one of your favourite moments ingame?
One of the moments I found most memorable in roleplay is when the Syndicate first started out. My leader, Kira, and I were on our raft with our newest addition to the team back then, Sara. A Spinosaur started chasing us on the river and Indigo, without thinking, jumped right off the balcony to chase the Spino away. A few bites and scratches later, Indigo arrives back to the base, in one piece, clinging onto a friendly person's Pteranodon. That was one of the many moments that I felt defined the beginning of the Syndicate and Indigo's care for his friends.
Another one was the most recent opening of the Seaview Tavern in the Redwoods! It was the first time the Syndicate started an event and man was it a blast! Indigo began drafting out a menu, Sara and Kira did the interior designing, Manfred and Adalbert made sure security was there and kept the resources coming in. Marcus came in and thought it would be a great idea to set up a dodo fighting pen, along with Schmitt and Floke who brought in fireworks and more beer! It was so impromptu and it was fun having everyone turn up for roleplay!
What is one thing you'd like to see change about arkrp?
One thing that I would like to see change in ARK RP is the prominence in the story line in relation to the RP happening in the server. I find that it is very interesting and cool that we now have the "Puppeteers" who claimed responsibility into taking us to the Center and it really excites me to see what RP can come out of it. However, I find that this group needs to be much more prominent in the roleplay in order to make the story line flow better and make it much more relevant to the roleplay here!
Upcoming Changes & Features
There are a lot of changes being actively worked on but sadly most of them are for season 2 which is a couple of months away yet. We will share more details about that nearer to December but in terms of things being worked on right now we have the following:
- The storyline for this season is planned out in it's entirety and events are planned and ready to be run.
- Still working hard on the chat system to allow for private and tribe messaging as well as show it on every page.
- Training of new staff members as GMs, Loremasters and such.
- A lot of planning and work for season two.
Will ARKRP run a Scorched Earth Server or at least add the content from it?
This is a complicated question but the best answer right now is no, we will not run a scorched earth only server. But yes, we do want to try and incorporate the awesome content from the DLC into our server. You can see the start of that in the market events but we have some ideas going forward of how to really make it bigger.
Honestly yes it has. I think I am a lot stronger in my opinion now, and a lot better at working with people and accepting their opinion. I also find myself a lot more creative and full of ideas.
In talks we have had before you have said that this is a rp-pvp server. Recently staff states its a rp server.
In my eyes this is a big change IF this is so since it indicates what kind of players staff wants and what type of rp they want US to take part in. So does this change come from you or/IF you agree with it?
This is something coming from our work on season two where some things will change dramatically (we aren't removing PVP though). For a long time now our server has been a RP-PVP or RP-PVPVE server and the focus has been less on the first RP part and more on the second part. Sort of like a normal PVP/PVPVE server but with RP on top. Moving forward we will be changing things to make us a RP server. pvp and pve will still exist but it will all go through roleplay and the focus will be roleplay. This may be hostile roleplay, kind roleplay, crazy roleplay, whatever. The changes to focus on RP won't limit it to pvp or pve RP it will just put the focus on the RP part of pvp or pve, instead of the game mechanic part.
I want to quickly thank everyone who came to the community meeting or left points for us to discuss and i'm glad that we managed to do that. Mature conversation between staff and the community is important in my opinion as you guys help shape the server just as much as we do. I hope you look forward to the future, it's looking really exciting. - Tam
This is just a quick thread to explain in detail the current new loot tables for beacons and how we will be dealing with items which are of a too high quality from before.
First of all starting from right now the loot tables for beacons have been updated to an entirely new rewritten table. This table gives most weapons and armour a max of journeyman quality and that journeyman quality is rare. It also expands the different options of what you can get in a loot table slightly so you may see some new stuff
Secondly we will be requiring EVERYONE to remove and get rid of any piece of gear that is higher than the qualities discussed below. This applies to gear you currently own as well as any gear you find moving forward for the rest of this season. You have two options when it comes to removing gear:
- Drop it on the floor and watch until it decays to nothing.
- If it is highly valuable bring it to the market event on Saturday and trade it for SE gear/creatures.
You will have until Monday 24th October to remove any gear which is above the max quality specified. IF you are found to be purposefully hiding gear above that afterwards you will be HARSHLY punished.
Thirdly, below you will find the max stats for gear we will be enforcing:
Weapons (sword, pike, guns etc)
Damage Maximum - 180%
Lately I have been watching the forums (and some ingame stuff) quite a lot and despite our efforts there seems to be somewhat of a downward spiral in terms of community interaction, happiness, having fun and staff-community relations. I cannot point out a simple fix so in an effort to try and figure out what can be done, and help everyone out we will be holding a community meeting in Teamspeak on Saturday October 15th @ 9PM UTC.
This will involve staff members and yourselves simply sitting, chatting and discussing the problems people have and how we can fix them together as a community. We want as many members of ARKRP to be able to make it to this as possible so please be there if you can.
I really hope this helps everyone come closer together and we as staff get some amazing insight and suggestions from you all. I want this place to be fun for everyone who plays and a server where people are eager to play and enjoy themselves. That is and always will be the primary goal.
It comes with great joy that I let everyone know we are moving our ticket system to a new platform. This new platform will allow us more functionality and give us better ability to answer your tickets faster and easier.
While we transition there is going to be a bit of a lag in tickets however once we get the system completely moved over we will no longer be answering tickets via the old system.
Here is a breakdown on how our team is going to migrate over to the new support platform.
1. We are going to swap the ticket system link over to the new system, and have an auto reply feature to have all new tickets going to the old system bounced back with a link to our new system.
2. After swapping the link over to the new system, we will clear out all the tickets or ask the ticket owners to migrate the information and submit a new ticket (depending on length of time to solve it)
3. Once we have moved all tickets over, we will start building the knowledge base so players can see all of the information relevant to possible issues.
I hope this helps clear the air on what we are doing to try and serve you all better!
Please let me know if there is any questions I can help answer moving forward!
First off I want to apologize to everyone whom has been waiting to get whitelisted. With the issues we have had regarding the Mod Update issue the last few days, the admin team's focus was shifted from Whitelists, to figuring out why we could not all access our systems. As explain by Poseidon (See Spoiler)
I am coming to you to let you all know that we are very much aware of the mod mismatch error.
We are currently having an issue ongoing with our ability to upload mods to the server, in an effort to keep the server up as long as possible and accessible for as many as possible we are working tirelessly through all avenues to upload without keeping those who are getting the error waiting too long. We are hopeful to come up with a work around to get everyone back on the server as soon as possible.
At the moment we are also waiting to hear back from the server host to hear from their perspective on the situation.
At this time I unfortunately need to ask everyone to please just give us some time to work through this issue and in time get the server working properly once again!
Thank you very much on behalf of the entire staff team for your ongoing patience!
