Ark: Roleplay Evolved - Volume I - Order & Anarchy
Server restarts every 8 hours at 2am UTC, 10am UTC & 6pm UTC
Welcome to the new and improved Ark: Roleplay Evolved! Ark: Roleplay Evolved is the premier roleplay community for Ark: Survival Evolved. Having existed since launch we have a vast history of exciting stories, conflicts and events. Now, Volume I - Order & Anarchy - has begun and with it a slew of changes as well as a relaunch of the entire server. We have new lore, new mods, new rules, new servers and oh so much more. We hope you all enjoy this new ArkRP and cannot wait to see the stories and tales you weave within it. Want to join in? Read on!
First off I want to mention the fact, as to why I am still red. The reason I was heading off, was postponed to some time in the New Year (Probably January). Thus I have decided to remain, and keep my role of Admin until such time arrives. Also if you have not realized, or noticed yet. I have been finally now speaking on Teamspeak, if you have yet to hear me speak and want to. I've been occasionally hanging out in some open TS rooms.
Now! Onto the topic of this post. We are currently aware that the Whitelists are behind far more than 72hours. For this we apologize, and want to advise the ones that are waiting to be whitelisted the reasoning behind this is American Thanksgiving that occurred on Thursday, November 24th.
During this last 5-6 days the majority of the admin team were away up until now being with family and 'recovering'. By the end of today, we plan on having a big chunk, if not all the whitelists done. Once again I do want to apologize for the length of time it has taken.
As work continues on getting season two ready for it's deadline (Dec/Jan) we are happy to bring you one big piece of news from this new season in advance.
THE LORE OF THE SERVER WILL BE REMADE, THE CURRENT LORE WILL BE REMOVED AND A NEW LORE STARTED
This will of course only come into effect once season two starts so don't worry about us randomly ending any storylines. We wanted to let you all know in advance specifically so people could get online and start to finish up any unresolved plots they may have.
The overarching story is on it's way to conclusion (1 or 2 more events) so please be sure NOT to kill off your character if you wish take part in the final events.
It is also important to note that we WILL be keeping the server up and running as normal for a day or two AFTER the final event to allow you all the ability to RP out your reactions and final few days before wipe.
The final event will be dangerous but is not created to force you to perma. If you wish to do so it will be possible but if you wish to end your story simply living happily ever after that will also be possible.
The new lore itself will be a big departure from our current lore and not a simple redo but you can expect to hear more about that closer to the time. We will release it a little before season two starts to allow you all the chance to create character and tribe ideas in advance. Hopefully you all enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed creating it and writing in so many new possibilities for characters and RP.
As always if you have any questions please feel free to ask here or contact a loremaster via PM or teamspeak. I hope you all enjoy this news and look forward to fresh, different, and exciting new beginnings as much as I do.
Here is a small section from the lore as an example of how different and exciting it will be:
The Basics Magic in its most basic form is a constant in the lives of every person living on our world, even those who do not follow one of the three Paths. One can surmise that the magic from the obelisks is drawn into humans through the gem on their wrist, as it seems to be made of the same material. Each person is born with said gem embedded in their wrist and it is a part of us just as much as our heart or brain. It seems to be a symbiotic relationship, as when the gem is removed, or the arm lost permanently, we have noted that the person will sicken and die. (There is a barbaric practice in Ul Dumar where executions are done simply by chopping off an arm and letting the person die slowly. Horrifying, I know.)
Another evidence of magic being present in every human is the magical space that each person seems able to access using the gem as a kind of key, allowing them to carry far more items than their physical frame would allow. It is interesting to note that while a person is conscious, they seem completely in control of this storage space, able to lock it away from the eyes of others. It is only when they are rendered unconscious or dead that their gem may be used by another to open the space.
Examples of the magics which will be in the new lore include things such as alchemy, bonding with beasts, and nurturing crop & plant growth.
There will be a lot more detail and such in the actual lore so please don't do much planning yet else you may have to change those plans! Also note this is only one piece of a much larger lore, it isn't the only surprise in it!
Q: Does this mean I lose my character? A: Yes, you can choose to end that characters story however you wish though. We will be opening a lot of possibilities in the final event. Some character concepts may fit with the new lore after some adjustments, but their history and memories from our current lore would not exist.
Q: When is this scheduled to happen? A: Sometime around December or January. I apologise we cannot be more specific but we are still finishing important parts up and I do not want to give a false date. Once a more solid date can be given, it will.
Q: When is the full new lore going to be released? A: Sometime in December is the aim. Ideally the first half since Christmas gets in the way the second half.
Guys, I’m really sorry, there was an error in communication and that is our fault. We are starting a new lore, we are writing a new lore. Your current character will be able to end their story.
You do not need to lose all the work you have put into your characters. You do not need to lose your relationships or the events you have gone through. You may take everything your character has gone through and adapt it to be your backstory in the new season.
So for example, Madame Xepher may create a new character named Madame Xepher. She may still have her husband and her children (as long as the players agree to collaborate and agree on that backstory being used)
The differences will be that you will need to go through your histories and backstories with a fine toothed comb and adapt it to the new lore. Because there are changes that will need to be made, there are things that are in our current lore that will not be in the new lore.
The full new lore will be released as soon as possible so you can start seeing what would need to be changed to make it fit.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask. We will answer as much as we are able.
History of the World
Origins Sa'el. A patchwork quilt of islands and civilizations, from the sandy deserts of Jahana to the deep tropical forests of Xul'ad, to the depths of Mer De Tuan, this is our world. Our home. We have always known this world to be this way. Known the dangers of leaving our homes to venture into the wilds. Where as one of the smaller species, we humans are seen as prey to most of the other life we share this world with.
Despite our lack of claws and fangs, we have forged our own ways to survive. Against the fangs of the sabercats, we have our spears and shield to block the claws. The scream of an argentavis is greeted with a hail of arrows. We survived, and we thrived. From the trees and stones, we built cities, great cities to fill the lands and small ones to soak in the peace of nature. Land was plentiful, food was abundant. The islands coexisted peacefully for so long. Until the peace was shattered.
The Great War No one is sure exactly who started the fighting between the islands. No one knows who fired the first shot. The little we know about the beginning of the war is that the first shot was fired somewhere in the east, sparking an inferno of rage and a storm of blood that lasted for centuries.
We watched as our neighbours eyed our lands with greed and avarice in their gaze, we sharpened our own swords and we built great fleets to travel to lands not our own. Some fought for glory, others for faith. Some fought out of greed, others as an aggressive way to defend their own homes. Thousands died. History books, the ones that survive, tell tales of the screams of battle mammoths falling in battle, crushing warriors with their death throes. They describe the smoke and fires and thunder of quetzal wings overhead, answered with the booming crash of cannon fire.
Most of the records from that time have been lost, many on purpose. Most do not wish to remember that time. It seemed that there was no way for the wars to end. Every fragile tendril of peace was met with a bared blade. Until the obelisks intervened. They had always been there. Sentinels standing guard over the world, their magic washing throughout the land, ever-present in the gem on the wrist of every human. We took them for granted, ignored them unless we wished to use their power. The mistake one man made ended the world. Gathering up the most powerful magic users in his kingdom, the Lord of Kha'al tried to bend the obelisk to his will, tried to harness all of the magic within it. When this failed... he tried to destroy it, theorizing that without the obelisk to contain it, the magic would be free to use. The obelisks responded with death. The kingdom of Kha'al was destroyed, sunk into the depths of the sea, the undamaged obelisk hovering over the waves as if to mark the watery grave. Barriers rose between the islands, gleaming rainbow walls forcing an unnatural peace. The walls stood for a hundred years, isolating cultures from each other. Until now.
The Golden Age Most of the barriers fell twenty years ago. Suddenly freed from our prisons, we have begun to explore the world once again. Trade ships sail the seas once more. There are still some barriers we have seen, places that are still walled off to us. We don't know anything about these lands, if their isolation is by choice or forced. Technology has come a long ways from the Great Wars, which were fought with swords and spears. We have found that the obelisks still allow us some small use of their magic, in potions and some minor spells such as healing or curses, and even these require physical contact to be effective.
Fearing the return of the Great Wars, we have forged an uneasy peace throughout the world. While the hostilities have faded, some still hold onto old prejudices and paranoia. Others welcome denizens of other islands with open arms. Each island is rich in traditions and history, strife and peace, bandits and vigilantes, despots and saviours. Some are primitive, others are looked to as marvels of technology.
This is the world in which you have been born. Who will you become? An exotic trader from a foreign land? A native farmer whose family have tilled the soil for generations? A bandit who preys on the rich and poor alike? A duellist who fights for glory and honour? Or something else entirely?
As you all well know we are currently experiencing an issue with our server and a mod that we have installed. The staff team has in this case opted to wait for an update to the mod rather than asking everyone to restart any thing that has been built with Structures plus.
Now we know that this occurrence isn't fun at all and it is keeping you all from playing happily on the server and that upsets us very much. SOOOOOO....................................................... (pause for dramatic effect)
We have decided to release some information that would have otherwise waited until Season 2's start date.
ArkRP now has a dedicated server and we are opening it up for the next 24 hours with increased rates for everyone to have fun and play on. While the server is open we will be using a relaxed rule set and only enforcing our PVP (hostility rules) and our ERP (Adult rating rules).
In addition we have UPPED the rates on everything to make playing more fun and more enjoyable moving forward on this initial run of our dedicated server:
- XP is a x20
- Gather is at x20
- Taming is at x20
We hope that you enjoy this little announcement and the chance to play on our brand new server!
In addition to this good news, we would like to apologize for all the errors that have been happening as of late with our server and that in large part has pushed us to make the decision to swap over to the new dedicated system that we hope will make everything about playing on Ark:Roleplay Evolved fun for everyone!
NOW go out and be merry, and above all have fun.
The IP to the server is: 18.104.22.168:27015 and it is running our most recent whitelist
Happy Halloween (Almost)! This months news is a strange one but we have lots coming in the rest of this season and lots more after that, so please enjoy!
This month news will follow the new format going forward which consists of:
Community Member Interview
Upcoming Changes & Features
We hope you enjoy this updated news format and see how it improves it a LOT!
The biggest news this month is likely the community meeting that was just held. We as staff had a long discussion with various member sof the community about the positives and negatives of arkrp and what they would like to see changed. You can find the full meeting notes and more detail HERE.
Additionally this month sees the return of the Trader Market (see HERE) as well as the first storyline event at the end of the month! Details about that will be posted soon after the market event is over but let's just say it will be a mystery
We also did some tweaks to the server like usual - changing apex taming and rules, remaking the loot tables from scratch and offering trades for items of too high quality as well finally finishing up our internal staff restructure. You may have noticed a lot of new staff recently and that is why, we want a bigger better and easier to interact with staff team, and we are now deep into doing just that.
Community Member Interview
This month's interview is with the amazing Indigo! Well known for his roleplay story that is told here on the forums as well as being a friendly community
Tell us who you are and what you do in ARKRP
People on the TS refer to me as Indigo so I'll leave it as that. The character that I'm currently playing is Mason "Indigo" Wu. He is a Singaporean - Chinese culinary student turned soldier who joins the Kurdish army as a volunteer militant in their resistance against ISIS. He dies by gunshots in one of the skirmishes and awakes in the Island, then getting washed up in the Center. Now he is part of a team of survivors named "The Syndicate" who seeks to survive peacefully against the hostile environments.
What inspired you to write your RP journal?
I guess what inspired me to write my RP journal was when I began reading many other journals in the forums. I must say that the Roleplay and Lore section is my most frequented section as of yet! I used to write journals on another character back when I was RP'ing in Elder Scrolls Online and figured I do the same here. I felt that the journals really helped my character explore his thoughts, his emotions and his plans further. The journal almost served as a road map for Indigo and how he will develop as a character. What is also inspiring about the RP journals is that it also allowed me to read into other characters in game and really let me enjoy their stories in ARKRP, whether Indigo was there or not. It is really fun to see how each character reacted to a particular scenario and even more so, how they varied from other characters!
What is one of your favourite moments ingame?
One of the moments I found most memorable in roleplay is when the Syndicate first started out. My leader, Kira, and I were on our raft with our newest addition to the team back then, Sara. A Spinosaur started chasing us on the river and Indigo, without thinking, jumped right off the balcony to chase the Spino away. A few bites and scratches later, Indigo arrives back to the base, in one piece, clinging onto a friendly person's Pteranodon. That was one of the many moments that I felt defined the beginning of the Syndicate and Indigo's care for his friends.
Another one was the most recent opening of the Seaview Tavern in the Redwoods! It was the first time the Syndicate started an event and man was it a blast! Indigo began drafting out a menu, Sara and Kira did the interior designing, Manfred and Adalbert made sure security was there and kept the resources coming in. Marcus came in and thought it would be a great idea to set up a dodo fighting pen, along with Schmitt and Floke who brought in fireworks and more beer! It was so impromptu and it was fun having everyone turn up for roleplay!
What is one thing you'd like to see change about arkrp?
One thing that I would like to see change in ARK RP is the prominence in the story line in relation to the RP happening in the server. I find that it is very interesting and cool that we now have the "Puppeteers" who claimed responsibility into taking us to the Center and it really excites me to see what RP can come out of it. However, I find that this group needs to be much more prominent in the roleplay in order to make the story line flow better and make it much more relevant to the roleplay here!
Upcoming Changes & Features
There are a lot of changes being actively worked on but sadly most of them are for season 2 which is a couple of months away yet. We will share more details about that nearer to December but in terms of things being worked on right now we have the following:
- The storyline for this season is planned out in it's entirety and events are planned and ready to be run.
- Still working hard on the chat system to allow for private and tribe messaging as well as show it on every page.
- Training of new staff members as GMs, Loremasters and such.
- A lot of planning and work for season two.
Will ARKRP run a Scorched Earth Server or at least add the content from it?
This is a complicated question but the best answer right now is no, we will not run a scorched earth only server. But yes, we do want to try and incorporate the awesome content from the DLC into our server. You can see the start of that in the market events but we have some ideas going forward of how to really make it bigger.
Honestly yes it has. I think I am a lot stronger in my opinion now, and a lot better at working with people and accepting their opinion. I also find myself a lot more creative and full of ideas.
In talks we have had before you have said that this is a rp-pvp server. Recently staff states its a rp server.
In my eyes this is a big change IF this is so since it indicates what kind of players staff wants and what type of rp they want US to take part in. So does this change come from you or/IF you agree with it?
This is something coming from our work on season two where some things will change dramatically (we aren't removing PVP though). For a long time now our server has been a RP-PVP or RP-PVPVE server and the focus has been less on the first RP part and more on the second part. Sort of like a normal PVP/PVPVE server but with RP on top. Moving forward we will be changing things to make us a RP server. pvp and pve will still exist but it will all go through roleplay and the focus will be roleplay. This may be hostile roleplay, kind roleplay, crazy roleplay, whatever. The changes to focus on RP won't limit it to pvp or pve RP it will just put the focus on the RP part of pvp or pve, instead of the game mechanic part.
I want to quickly thank everyone who came to the community meeting or left points for us to discuss and i'm glad that we managed to do that. Mature conversation between staff and the community is important in my opinion as you guys help shape the server just as much as we do. I hope you look forward to the future, it's looking really exciting. - Tam
