So, there are some heavy problems with lag and bad ping on the Aeternia server I am currently playing on. (Maybe it's on Crasite too, never been there) It is fine during the day and starts to lag very heavily in the evening (UTC time). It is not a clientside issue. I asked some other people and they have exactly the same problem and live in completely different parts of Europe. It also doesn't seem to be affected by server population at all. At least, by what I noticed. Just wanted to let you know there is an issue with that.
Server ping problems (not clientside)

Unfortunately, I believe there is nothing we can really do about that. I am so sorry for your lag issues.

Ok. Thank you. Could you maybe make sure, that the other staff is informed about that issue? Maybe some of them have a solution. I am not the only one with that issue and I think it's something that shouldn't be ignored. Thanks

Ping is relative to builds on the server, and players on the server. When there are fewer people on the ping should go down (assuming your normal connection is fine).

the problem is the castles and keeps mod honestly. it causes massive lag issues for many people, and its not an easy fix. I've been getting massive snap back and such, rubber banding.... its getting close to unplayable

People are talking about 2 issues here, network lag and fps lag. Yes the keeps mod strains it and yes, the ping is very bad at times.

We know about the issues on Aeterina and are working on it. Any information you can give us would be helpful!

Hi guys, I have been testing around with FPS lag yesterday as miss Rook opened a thread about the lights giving lag, and this is most likely the case.
For some reason, light sources are taking down FPS SIGNIFICANTLY , I am talking about the Steampunk light, the Alchemist torches which as I've said on the other thread take the FPS down with 5 to up to 40 FPS depending on your PC stats and settings, it is, however very odd that it now seems to be every single modded light source, I hope that others will help me test what could be it, and perhaps we can fix that at least, and than we can see if there's more that causes FPS/lag issues.
As for the ping, yes, ping works as Duovandal described, it's as playing ping pong, and if one side is slower at ponging back, the ping will unfortunately start to stagger as well.
But of course, this is absolutely not something that we ignore as this is being looked into as we speak.

One person in our tribe found that the burning alchemist water tube gave alot of lag whether it was turned on or off. So we now only set it up when we use it. Seems to me that there's alot of mods stacked with alot of animations which probably stack lag upon lag as well.

I've seen the Keep + Steampunk torches at the same time with a lot of people as well in one place today and my fps only dropped about 8-10 frames or so. I wouldn't lump them together too badly. Actual server lag is almost nigh unavoidable with the player base size + map + mods. When there is about 20 people on connection is fairly stable, when it starts getting to 40 or higher the connection is constantly tapping 200. There's not a lot that can be done about the latency.
The FPS though as mentioned in the other thread is likely due to light sources, the only ones that I've found so far that do this the most severely are candles/chandliers from the medieval mod. The firepits from them seem to work just fine though, but any of the lights that generate low-light seems to strain FPS very heavily. This still needs testing to verify all of it.
